Academic Chess’s February 2018 USCF Chess Championships!!
Date: Our monthly USCF rated tournaments will be on Saturdays, Feb. 10th & 24th, 2018.
Where: Academic Chess Office: Saddleback Business Center -Suite 110 26941 Cabot Road, Laguna Hills, CA 92653 à Directions from 1-5 Freeway: Exit Oso and go West. Make first left on Cabot Rd. Pass Vista Viejo and make the first right into the Saddleback Business Park. Look for Suite 110.
When: The Tournament runs from 3pm to 6pm. Registration is from 2:30pm-3pm. National Master Craig Clawitter will go over all the rules of the tournament, and give some helpful tips. After the rules and tips are given out, it’s tournament time!
What: Everybody is welcome! The tournaments will consist of at least 3 rounds of USCF rated games @ game in 25 minutes with 5 second delay. Boards, sets, and clocks are provided. Prizes include trophies for the top place finishers, a sportsmanship medal, and a lucky raffle winner* will get a 1st place trophy!
*Each raffle “ticket” is 15 moves written down with correct chess notation

Academic Chess’s Feb. 2018 Adult/Talented Junior Octos
Date: Our February 2018 Adult/Talented Junior Octos will be on Saturday, February 24th, 2018
Where: Academic Chess Office: Saddleback Business Center-Suite 109 26941 Cabot Road, Laguna Hills, CA 92653 à Directions from 1-5 Freeway: Exit Oso and go West. Make first left on Cabot Rd. Pass Vista Viejo and make the first right into the Saddleback Business Park. Look for Suite 109.
When: The Tournament runs from 12:00pm (noon) to 5:15pm. Registration is from 11:30am-12:00pm.
Round Times: Rd 1 12:00pm Rd 2 2pm Rd 3 3:45pm if both players agree, they can start games early.
What: Open to anybody over the age of 12. If you are under 13 years old, you must have a USCF rating of at least 1000, to be eligible for this tournament. The players will be sorted into Octos (8 player sections) based on USCF ratings and they will play 3 rounds @ game in 40 minutes with 5 second delay. Board/sets are provided. If possible, please bring your own chess clocks.
Prizes: 80%! of Entry Fees are given back in prizes and are divided evenly through the Octos*.
1st :70% of prize pool# 2nd: 30% of prize pool# #or at least EF back
Tiebreaks: rules can be found at: nmcraigclawitter.weebly.com/tiebreak-rules.html
*Depending on the number of participants, the bottom sections may need to be a Hex or Quad (6 or 4 player section). If this is the case, then there will only be a 1st place prize—winner takes all.
